Facing a barrage of criticism over dipping law and order situation from the Opposition and the media, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav once again reiterated his commitment on taking stern action against criminals.

Yadav said that his government has already taken strict action against the culprits involved in Bulundshahr highway gangrape but if the family wanted, he was not averse to handing over the to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Yadav for the first time aired his views on the case on the sidelines of the oath taking ceremony of Deputy-lokayukta at the Rajbhawan on Thursday morning.

“Rajnnitik dal kamrey mein baith kar pidit logon ko kya samjha rahe hainIJ Ye rajneeti nhi hai to kya hai IJ Woh chahate hain CBI jaanch ,ho to mai taiyaar hu,” the CM said. (Political leaders are speaking to the victims in a close door meeting and what are they suggesting. Is this not a politics IJ If they want a CBI probe, then I am ready).

Terming the Bulandshahr incident as ‘very saddening, unfortunate and shameful’, theCM said that rival parties want to gain political mileage out of it.

“Our rivals are trying to politicise the matter ahead of the of upcoming polls. The government has given strict orders in the matter,” he told the media.

The CM assured that the government will get the trial fast tracked to bring the culprits to justice at the earliest. Hitting out at the BJP, Yadav said that as there is no issue before them, the party was raising the issue of a CBI probe into the ghastly incident.

Yadav however appealed to the Opposition parties not to do politics over the matter and show sensitivity. He also pointed out that the gangrape and hanging of sisters in Badaun was also handed over to the CBI for probe.

``On the Opposition’s demand, I handed over the Badaun case probe to the CBI. Now the truth is before everyone, no one is daring to accept it,” Yadav pointed out while saying that the leaders demand a CBI probe without going into the merits of work done by the UP Police.
