Asserting his authority and projecting himself as a decisive, dynamic and undisputed leader of the Samajwadi Party, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said in the state assembly that he was neither `kamzor’ (weak), nor `majboor’ (helpless) nor `bhola’ (innocent).
CM made this observation while replying to two hour debate on the law and order in the state following adjournment notice moved by the opposition.
Apparently miffed with the media for negative coverage of the state on the law and order front and thus projecting his image as weak and indecisive leader Akhilesh Yadav single out the electronic media for maligning his image. Chief Minister however admitted that the government desires to improve its image by toning up the law and order and for achieving this objective his government will have to work hard.
The opposition parties the BSP, BJP and the Congress attributed the poor law and order to the multiple power centers within the first family of the Samajwadi party thus eroding the authority of the chief minister as the decisive and effective administrator. The opposition also blamed the politicians-criminal nexus and the dominance of officers from a particular caste for the poor law and order in the state. ``The UP police is more interested in searching the buffalos of the minister of the Samajwadi Party government rather than caring for the safety and security of the common citizens’’, said a BSP leader.
The leader of opposition and senior BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya initiating the debate said ``Our chief minister is `Bhola’ innocent) so none in the bureaucracy cares for his order and officers consider him as `dull head’. The authority of the Chief minister has been eroded to such an extent that despite issuing orders for as many as 20 times in last eight months of this year he could not transfer an officer from a district’’. The revelation forced the CM to intervene and admit that the officer is the Basic Shiksha Adhikari in Deoria district.
``I am troubled by the TV; do not rely on the reports on the law and order shown by the electronic media as breaking news. In no other state the picture of the chief minister is shown along with crime story but its being done regularly in UP’’, said the CM adding ``the photo of the CM was shown by the TV while covering the hooch tragedy in lucknow and Unnao, despite the state police took prompt action arrested the culprits and the government also extended financial help to the survivors of the victims, in a similar tragedy in Mumbai where over 100 persons died the picture of the CM of that state was never shown by the media’’.
listing the good works by the police CM said none were reported by the media. ``The police eliminated a notorious gangster of West UP and dacoit in Chitrakoot’’, said the CM
Blaming the BJP for vitiating the harmony in the state CM said `` none can match the skills of this party giving political and communal twist to any incident. Body of the girl was recently found in a toilet in Mahmoodabad town of Sitapur district and the BJP leader blown this issue out of proportion resulting in violence where almost every civil and police officer of the district received injuries. CM also listed the measures taken up by his government for making police more responsive and efficient for serving the people and augmenting the resources of the police. He said in next financial 4,000 more vehicles will be provided to the state police.
Earlier during the debate the BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya said ``the writ of the government has ceased to exist thus high morale of the criminals CM should take cognizance of serious incidents and act decisively then only he would stand the scrutiny by the common people’’.
The BJP leader Suresh Khanna said crime happen in every regime but it’s the decisive action that revels the intent and resolve of the government to deal with the situation. ``The SP government has singularly failed in sending a loud and clear message to the anti social elements of its resolve to keep them on tight leash’’, said the BJP leader.
The Congress leader Pradeep Mathur said the poor law and order has washed the good works and achievements of the CM. ``Police stations continue to be auctioned and I am at my wits end to understand as to why CM has not been able to control this during his over three years tenure in office’’, said the Congress leader.
Shyam Sunder Sharma a senior independent member said ``Akhilesh Yadav is worthy son of a worthy father and he should act accordingly’’. The BSP after the debate staged a walk out from the house.
