With an aim to complete the construction of overbridge at Kukrail nullah Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra asking him to give “working permission” so that construction of overhead bridge could be completed. “The six-lane bridge is an important connection between Ring Road and Gomti Nagar. The delay in construction has hampered transportation. A working permission from army will speed up construction and ease traffic snarl,” Yadav wrote in his letter which was released to the press on Tuesday.

The six-lane road connects ring road with Gomti Nagar. This is 4.180 km long. Construction of 2.55 km road is complete and only an overbridge measuring 1.020 km is pending because of objections raised by army in construction of road over-bridge. Yadav wrote in his letter that with construction of this overbridge residents of many colonies in cis-Gomati areas including Khurram Nagar, Vikas Nagar and Indira Nagar will stand benefitted. They will find an easy and hassle-free route that will connect them to airport and railway stations.

“This overbridge will also help in clearing traffic congestion,” he said. The army has raised objection to construction of this overbridge as almost 1.6 km road passed through Trans-Gomti Firing range and Kukrail Firing range. CM argued that army’s objections are redundant as hundreds of people still live around these ranges for the last many years and moreover these places are not used for firing practices anymore.

He said that on June 12, 2013 the PWD had sent letter to Command Headquarters of lucknow seeking permission to construct overbridge. It said that the ownership of the land should remain with army but PWD should be allowed to carry out construction. “On August 5, 2013 a meeting was held in New Delhi between army officials and PWD to sort out the matter but nothing happened. It was assured that Governmet does not want transfer of land it only wants permission to construct the overbridge,” Yadav said. Chief Minister also sought an additional grant of Rs 396.54 crore for widening of Shivpur-lahartara road.
