Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked officials to extend all possible help to the flood affected people, forced to leave their village and shift to higher places, saying that no one should die of hunger in these areas. Yogi carried out an aerial survey of flood-affected Pilibhit and lakhimpur Kheri districts and met officials to evaluate the ground reality. In Kheri, the CM also addressed people at ONGC Grounds of Sisayia.

“There should not be loss of life because of floods. This is the responsibility of the administration to ensure food for human beings and fodder for the cattle. People should be shifted to safer place at the earliest and relief material should be distributed without fail,” Yogi said in Kheri on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister said that flood was a natural calamity which no one could stop. "But we can mitigate the sufferings of people by extending timely and adequate help to them.  These people need food, water and shelter and the administration should provide them at the earliest," he said.

“MPs and legislators should be involved in distribution of relief material. They should know where these relief camps were being operated and to whom relief material were being distributed,” Yogi said.

“This is a trying time for the administration. Now, they are grappling with flooded villages. But once water starts receding, the administration should provide medical help to the people too. During this time, incidents of snake bite increase hence the hospitals should have enough supply of antivenoms,” the CM said.

Before the aerial inspection, Yogi spoke over the telephone with District Magistrates of Maharajganj, Balrmpur, Kishinagar, Gorakhpur and Sidharthnagar and enquired about the flood situation there.

A Government spokesman said that the CM asked all District Magistrates to carry out inspection of flood ravaged areas and expedite relief distribution operation.

However, parts of CM’s native city - Gorakhpur, was inundated as water released from Nepal into Rapti and Rohini rivers, flooded large swathe of land.

The situation in Gorakhpur turned grim after a breach in the embankment water started flowing from Domnigarh Bundh on Rapti river around 7 am this morning. A a result, localities like Zafar Colony, Bahrampur, Rasulpur and Piprapur witnessed water logging.

District Magistrate Rajiv Rautela told reporters that people from low lying areas have been evacuated while embankments have been strengthened. He said that as precautionary measure, power supply has been switched off in flood-affected mohullas while all schools and colleges have been closed. Raautela said that preventive measures were underway and the situation would be normal by Wednesday evening.
