CM asks legislators to be courteous to people, avoid getting a negative image

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath advised the newly-elected MLAs of the 18th UP assembly to be courteous and patient towards the people of the state and keep away from “contract/ leases} and “transfer, postings”.

"Those who tend to show loyalty towards ‘contract/leases’ and ‘transfer, postings’ instead of the people only discredit themselves. The elected people’s representatives should focus efforts on the implementation of schemes of the Central and state government," the chief minister said on the concluding day of the orientation programme for first-time MLAs in Lucknow on Saturday.

"The 25 crore people of the state have chosen all 403 of you to be their leaders with great confidence. So, you have to be accountable to the public. Set your timetable to fulfill the promises you made to the people. We have decided to be on district tours by the week-end. All of you should do the same. From Monday to Thursday, we will take care of administrative work here in the capital. Public representatives can take an appointment to meet me during the week too," Yogi said.

The chief minister said that the image of an ideal public representative would give an identity throughout the life. "On the other hand, a negative image will stick to you for the rest of your life. So, we should avoid getting a negative image. People see everything, be it the activities in the Vidhan Sabha or on the roads. If you indulge in negativity, your image will suffer. Hence, we have to move forward with a positive attitude, which will lead to people expressing confidence in you,” Yogi said.

“I entered public life in 1998. I have been both an MLA and an MP and have realised that the more intimately a public representative connects with the people, the more he/she will be able to work with confidence. When I was an MP, I saw that thousands of children were dying every year due to encephalitis in Gorakhpur and surrounding areas. Hence, when I became the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh after 20 years, I immediately started working on it by establishing inter-departmental coordination. As a result, there has been a 95 per cent decline in the number of deaths due to encephalitis in the state. This model came in handy during the COVID-19  pandemic too and was appreciated as a model in the country and the world,” the chief minister said.

Yogi also pointed out the pathetic condition of BRD Medical College at Gorakhpur when he became the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

"The medical college management was helpless due to paucity of resources. By collecting resources with local support, I made them available to the medical college. As soon as I became the chief minister, I spared no efforts to eradicate encephalitis from the root," he said.

"On June 6, there will be a joint session of the legislative assembly, which will be attended by the President of India. We all have to listen to him graciously. There should be discussions in the House, no matter how long they take. This practice identifies you as a good and ideal public representative. This is how your tenure will be recognised," Yogi Adityanath said.

Claiming that everyone coming to the assembly was not a member of the ruling or opposition party but a public representative, the chief minister said, "When we work with innovation, the message goes far. Our efforts should be to raise issues of public interest in fewer words."

Referring to the E-Vidhan system, Yogi said that a good effort had been made to implement the programme in Uttar Pradesh. "Every one of you already uses smartphones and other electronic devices. Hence, the new system is not going to be a problem in any way. Using technology, we will be able to take UP forward in terms of development," he added

The chief minister appealed to the people’s representatives to set an example for the people of Uttar Pradesh through mutual coordination and discussions. "Our government has already started working on improving mutual coordination and discussions. As a result, alvida namaz did not happen on the streets and there was no discrimination in taking off loudspeakers from religious places. We accomplished this by coordinating and discussing. Loudspeakers that have been taken down have been donated to schools. Everything happened with mutual cooperation," Yogi said.
