Putting an end to the culture of working from camp offices, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked senior officials of Education department to regularly attend their offices and has directed principals of state-run schools to start parent-teacher meetings to apprise the parents of the academic performance of their wards.

He has also issued directives to transfer officials who have been posted in one place for years.

“All officers should work from their designated office and stop the practice of working from camp office. Officials of Basic Education department, district inspectors of schools, joint director of education and other officials should work from their respective offices,” the Chief Minister said in a review meeting of Higher, Secondary and Basic Education departments in Lucknow on Friday.

Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma, Minister of State for Basic Education Anupama Jaiswal and Chief Secretary Anup Chandra Pandey were also present in the meeting.

Yogi asked the Education department officials to conduct random checks and surprise visits to schools across the state. “Please do not spare self-financed schools. Inspect those schools too,” he said.

The Chief Minister issued several directives to improve academic environment in schools, including introduction of PTM and regular checking of mid-day meals served to children to ensure quality.

“We are committed to bringing positive change in education. Therefore, officials of blocks, tehsils and districts are required to interact with gram panchayats and people’s representatives regularly,” the Chief Minister said.

Yogi said the government had cut the number of holidays in educational institutions which led to discontinuance of holidays in memory of many great men and other special days and hence students had started getting more time for study in schools and colleges.

“Even though schools and colleges should be closed on holidays, their offices should not be closed. On that day, principals of schools and colleges should communicate with parents,” Yogi said and added that private schools would open after June 20 whereas government schools would open after July 1.

The Chief Minister suggested that former students’ council should be formed in all educational institutions and former students should be felicitated on August 15, January 26, and other important days.

“Many former students of a school could now be IAS or PCS officer, politician or businessman who could help the school financially as well as motivate students to achieve new heights,” he said.

On secondary education, Yogi said that the government was already working on zero tolerance policy and was not going to compromise on quality of education.

“In secondary education, we took strong measures for conducting fair examination. We will not let anyone play with the future of students. There have been major changes in education in the past two years and these have been very positive,” the Chief Minister said.
