CM asks Central Govt to help farmers affected by Demonetization

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has asked Central government to extend help to farmers who are suffering because of sudden demonetization of the high value currency notes.

“If Narendra Modi calls his government as pro farmers it should immediately order relief for the farmers who are bearing the brunt because of unilateral decision to ban use of high denomination currency notes,” Yadav told a group of reporters at the sideline of a function held here on Tuesday.

He said that after kharif farmers do not have money to purchase seeds for potato or fertiliser. They have just sold their paddy crop. They are plush with money but the problem is the currency is in high denomination which has been banned. “Facing such a piquant situation frustration is growing among the farmers. The want fertiliser and seed immediately. If they do not get it in time this may result into law and order problem,” Chief Minister said.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said in Ghazipur that his government is pro- farmer. If it is really so he should order immediate relief for the farmers.

On Sunday Yadav had asked PM to extend validity to use Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes in hospitals and petrol pumps by November 30.

Chief Minister said that his government was keen to curb black money and will help Union Government in its all endeavour. The Union government should ensure that farmers, common citizens and small businessmen  are not affected by this transition. “Number of bank branches in rural UP is very less so Government should open camps to ensure proper exchange of currency,’ he said

Earlier taking a serious view of problems being faced by foreign tourists due to demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 100 Chief Minister has asked officials to take steps to provide relief to tourists.

He directed Chief Secretary Rahul Bhatnagar to coordinate with senior bank officials and ensure that separate bank counters are opened for foreign tourists in Agra and Varanasi.
