Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a central assistance of Rs 365 crore for the farmers who lost their crops in hailstorm this year.
“The farmers in Uttar Pradesh had suffered a massive loss in hail storm. The State Government had earlier demanded Rs 500 crore as compensation through a letter on April 17, 2014. But the central team after inspection revised the estimate to Rs 365 crore,” Yadav wrote in his letter which was made public on Thursday.
He said the Government of India had raised some objections on September 24 and the State gave adequate answer to those queries by October 10. “Almost two months have passed since then and state government has not received a penny,” Yadav said.
He said that majority of these districts had faced drought too. So the farmers have faced a brunt for no faults of theirs. With no assistance coming from the Union Government it would be difficult for the farmers to get two square meals a day.
“The Government should immediately release central assistance of Rs 365 crore so that farmers could get the relief,” Chief minister said. Meanwhile, Yadav has ordered construction of a 1.5 km long link road in Roza village in Ghazipur district. He took this decision after someone posted a picture of the village on his facebook account.
Government spokesman said during his visit to Ghazipur district on December 1 he confirmed the state of the road and ordered construction of the same.
