Advising meritorious students to be positive in their approach, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that students should never allow negativity to creep in as it dragged one down towards failure.
“Positivity should be the essence of your life. Conquer your fear. If you can do it, victory would be yours. Believe me, nothing is unattainable in life. You only need a resolve and confidence within yourself that you can achieve your goal,” Yogi said during a function where 147 meritorious students, who passed class X and XII this year were feted in lucknow on Thursday.
The CM said that students could change their fate with hard work. “Do not be an escapist. The other name of life is hard work. Do not ever look for short cuts. Have a dream and work hard to follow that dream. Always think about that dream till it was fulfilled,” he suggested.
The students honoured today were 117 toppers from class X and XII of Uttar Pradesh Secondary Board and 30 meritorious students of ICSE, ISC and CBSE.
Yogi revealed that when the UP Board results were about to be announced, he was apprehensive after hearing about the Bihar Board results.
“I am happy that what happened with Bihar Board was not replicated here. Students excelled with flying colours. The credit for this should go to teachers and parents,” he said.
At the felicitation function, students were given Rs one lakh, an I-pad and certificate while their mothers were honoured with a shawl and fathers with a `pagdi.’.
“You cannot take away the contribution of parents behind a student’s success. Home is the first school where a child learns the lesson of discipline and hard work. If students are touching new heights it is because of their parents,” the Chief Minister said.
Realising that majority of the meritorious students were girls, Yogi said that despite girls taking lead over boys in all fields, people still opt for abortions. “This is a matter of shame that in many parts of the state, the number of girls is less than boys. In this age, when a girl is considered a real `beta’ many parents still yearn for boys. Time has changed and so should the mentality,” said the Chief Minister.
After declaration of UP Board results on June 9, Yogi had declared that he would honour students coming in the merit list. The BJP had also declared that it would give laptops to students who pass class XII and continue their studies in Uttar Pradesh.
