In a shocking incident, a Class VIII student was raped at gun-point in Baghpat and when her father tried to save her the accused hit him with the butt of the revolver, injuring him critically.
The victim was admitted to hospital and the local residents reported the matter to the local police.
A case has been registered in this regard by the police and further investigations are on.
According to the father, who is a farmer of a village in Chandinagar police station, his two daughters were sleeping in a room of the house and he was sleeping in a separate room on Saturday night. One daughter's age is 14 years and the other daughter's age is eight years. The elder daughter is a student of class VIII. It is alleged that late night, a 45-year-old local resident entered the house and forcibly took the elder daughter out of the room and raped her. Hearing her screams, the farmer woke up and came out of the room and protested but the accused hit him on the head with the butt of a pistol. As the other daughter also shouted for help the locals gathered there following which the accused fled the scene.
The police reached the spot and investigated the matter and also shifted the injured to hospital. They, however, took no action against the accused who later threatened the family with dire consequences if they lodged a report.
