Scions of two traditional political families of Rampur—Nawab of Rampur Naved Miyan allied to Bahujan Samaj Party and Azam Khan of Samajwadi Party came to a head which later culminated into their supporters clashing violently.
Trouble started when cars of former BSP legislator Naved Miyan’s son Hamza and Azam Khan’s son and sitting SP legislator Abdullah, came in front of each other near a city square and each driver asked the other to back off to let his vehicle pass.
Matters soon got out of hands and the two sides fired upon each other and their supporters too reached there and pelted stones. Police soon reached the scene and chased away the mob. Cross FIRs were lodged by both sides accusing each other of violence and firing.
In his complaint, the Nawab’s son Hamza alleged that SP MlA Abdullah Azam along with his supporters engineered an attack on him. Abdullah Azam also lodged an FIR against Hamza and five other unidentified persons.
An official said that a cross case was lodged by Hamza Miyan and Abdullah Azam, investigations were on and action would be taken against the guilty.
First time MlA from Swar Tanda in Rampur, Abdullah Azam said the Nawab of Rampur’s son Naved Mian was conspiring to eliminate him as he lost the recent Assembly poll. Azam said that Navd was yet to reconcile with his crushing electoral defeat.
Azam said that if the police failed to take prompt action against those who attacked him then he would raise the issue in the Assembly. The Budget session of the Assembly is slated to commence from Monday.
