Ruling our probe into the recovery of dead bodies in Ganga near Unnao Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan said that there was nothing suspicious in the deaths and Government has not received any request from any quarter for any probe. “There is no need of any probe as the reports from the Unnao authorities have not expressed any suspicion on the recovery of the bodies,” he told The Pioneer here on Thursday.
Chief secretary’s clarification came on a day when senior Samajwadi Party Minister Md Azam Khan had blamed Unnao’s BJP MP Shakshi Mahraj for transporting these bodies in a truck and throwing them in Ganga to foment communal hatred. “The Unnao district administration has carried out medical tests of these bodies and nothing suspicious was found. Even Government has not received any request from any quarter asking for probe into the matter,” Ranjan said.
Panic gripped the villages around Pariyar Ghat in Unnao when scores of dead bodies were seen floating in Ganga. Officials claimed it was difficult to identify these bodies, numbering over 100 as they were badly decomposed. Villagers first noticed these bodies on Tuesday morning. Most of them were stuck at the bank of river. Dogs, vultures and crows were seen devouring these corpses. Scared villagers informed the police immediately. The Central government has sought a report from the UP government on the matter.
