Chandrashekhar meets Jayant

Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Jayant Chaudhary and Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad met at the former’s residence on Wednesday.

Both leaders termed it a formal meeting.

Jayant Chaudhary is to chair a meeting of newly-elected MLAs of RLD in Lucknow on March 26 and also aims to revamp the party organisation by including young faces as party’s office-bearers.

RLD leader Anupam Mishra said that Chandrashekhar Azad discussed the issue of Jitendra Meghwal, who was killed allegedly for keeping a mustache in Rajasthan’s Pali district. He said Jayant spoke on youths’ empowerment and issues of social justice.

In Rajasthan’s Pali district, a young man Jitendra Meghwal, a Dalit, was killed for sporting a moustache by members of a dominant caste on March 18. After the murder, members of his community staged a protest demanding the arrest of the accused.

Mishra said that the RLD won eight seats in the assembly elections in alliance with Samajwadi Party. "The party not only won seats due to the coalition but it also succeeded in extending its reach among the Muslim community in west UP. Now RLD is looking for an outreach among the Dalit community.

Chandrashekhar is a big leader of Dalit community and holds good sway. A meeting with him will obviously send a positive message among the community," the RLD leader said.
