After accusing the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) of having tactical understanding to once again polarise the coming Assembly elections, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati made fresh attack on the Central as well as State Government claiming that the two were “linking religion with politics” just ahead of the polls as they wanted to make “electoral benefits” out of it.
“With Narendra Modi suddenly announcing construction of the Ramayana Sangrahalay (museum) in Ayodhya and Akhilesh Yadav was also quick to react by declaring of Ramleela theme park, both in the name of tourism promotion, clearly pointed that the two were linking religion with politics just to make advantage in the coming Assembly polls”, asserted Mayawati while questioning the `time’ of making such announcement.
“Developing tourism in Ayodhya is good but how come the Narendra Modi government thought of it and the state government too came out with a plan just before the Assembly polls,” she added while once again accusing the two of having tactical understanding to polarise the elections. “linking religion with politics and electoral gains by these governments is condemnable...had they really been so concerned about these issues, they would have thought about them long ago,” said the former chief minister while adding that without making proper budget allocation for the two projects, both will remain confined to papers only. She also warned the two governments that while developing these projects, they should exercise utmost caution in ensuring that the disputed area was not affected.
Mayawati was particularly critical of the Samajwadi Party government in the state which decided to increase the honorarium of madarsa teachers and provide houses at cheap rates to the poor in a cabinet meeting. The BSP chief took a jibe at the SP saying these will remain “mere announcements” in the absence of proper budgetary allocation. Mayawati also alleged that there was a race going on between the BJP and the SP “for cheap publicity”. Earlier Congress was involved in similar type of publicity.
