Centre biased against UP on power front: Akhilesh Seeks co-op in industrial development

Accusing the Union Government of being biased against Uttar Pradesh on power front, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that his Government was committed to attracting investments for industrial development of the state and for that it needed co-operation from the Centre.

“The Samajwadi Party Government is working hard to bring investment in the state. The previous Samajwadi Party Government had initiated steps by setting up several sugar mills, particularly in the eastern UP. We are working on the ambitious Maitreya project,” Yadav said, intervening during the Question Hour in the UP Assembly on Thursday.

“lucknow is going ahead with setting up of 4G telecom services which will provide employment to hundreds of youth. We are doing much but there is need for better packaging so that we can showcase Uttar Pradesh to investors,” he said.

The Chief Minister asked the Bharatiya Janata Party members to impress upon their Central Government to give the state its power quota and good quality coal for power units and remove all constraints in setting up new power plants.

BJP state president and member of Assembly, laxmikant Bajpai, assured the Chief Minister that they would take up the matter with the Centre and asked him to give all the correspondence between the CM and the Prime Minister’s Office to the party leader.

Earlier, Industry Minister Rammurti Verma said that during the recently held Investors Conclave in New Delhi on June 12, MoUs were signed with 22 companies for investments to the tune of over Rs 42,000 crore.

The House witnessed some noisy scenes when Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohd Azam Khan said that the SP Government had not ditched the people like the present National Democratic Alliance Government which came to power by selling dreams of ‘achchhe din’ and was now asking people to wait for five years.

This statement was opposed by the BJP members and their leader Satish Mahana alleged that law and order in the state was bad while the power crisis was acute but the Government was only blaming the Centre.

Khan also alleged that the BJP was trying to destabilise the state Government by raking up false propaganda of law and order.
