The Government of India and the Uttar Pradesh government will sign a memorandum of understanding for organising Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas in Varanasi from January 21 to 23.

The MoU will be inked at a function in New Delhi on Saturday. It will be signed by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

“After signing of the document, the two signatories will make an official announcement in this regard,” said a government spokesman.

The spokesman said that the two leaders would also inaugurate a website on ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas’ and a film would be screened on this occasion.

This is the first time that Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas will be held in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The UP government plans to take the participating dignitaries to Kumbh Mela at Allahabad in January next year.
