With the medical board constituted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), recommended to go ahead with the second autopsy, the rising water level of river Ganga might came in way of the CBI’s effort to exhume the bodies of two cousin sisters who were buried on the banks of the river Ganga in Badaun. CBI is likely to exhume the bodies on Friday and a new panel of doctors including forensic experts would carry out second autopsy.
Sources in the CBI confirmed that the medical board found several loopholes in the first autopsy conducted on the two victims by the local doctors in Badaun after which they gave its nod for fresh postmortem examination, on Thursday. The CBI wanted to get the second post-mortem examination conducted as they wanted to get some doubts cleared about the rape and murder theory as floated by family members and local residents.
Sources said that the CBI is probing into the honour killing angle as well as the property dispute, which had come up during probe by the UP police. Sources said that the CBI advocated second autopsy as they were not satisfied with the first post-mortem examination, in which one of the three doctors, Dr Pushpalata Pant, was conducting the job for the first time, while the panel also remained silent over from where the blood found near the private part of the younger girl came from, whether it was human blood, the time of death of the two girls, expert opinion over the finding that the death is result to asphyxia as a result of anti-mortem hanging, viscera report etc.
Sources also maintained that mother of the one of the Badaun victim had already given her consent to the sleuths of the CB), to exhume the bodies and went ahead with second post-mortem examination. The consent of mother and medical board findings would ease the job of the CBI to get clearance from the local court and they would went ahead to exhume both the bodies and get second autopsy conducted.
Earlier in the day, the irrigation department has warned on Thursday that after two days the bodies could not be recovered due to overflowing Ganga. State Irrigation department Executive Engineer D K Jain disclosed to the media persons in Badaun that due to heavy rains in Uttrakhand, water level in the Ganga is rising and in next two days the graves at Ataina ghat could be submerged. “ The Porcupine technique which was suggested by CBI to retain the bodies on the bank would not be useful as the technique only works where the water has depth. There is a possibility of water taking away the bodies to some other place by breaching the embankment during the floods,” the irrigation official said.
He said that the district authorities had asked them to protect the graves but it would be impossible once the banks are flooded. The two cousins, aged 14 and 15, went missing from their house on the night of May 27 and their bodies were found hanging from a tree in the village in Ushait area the next day. later, CBI was handed over the case after it sparked a nationwide outrage.
Meanwhile, the CBI is waiting for the reports of the lie-detecter and polography tests of the accused and the family members. ‘We will go ahead with the narco test once the agency receives the reports of the previous tests,’ sources said while adding that the reports of the lie-detecter and polography tests would be available with the agency by this week. The sources claimed that no narco test has been done on anyone in the case so far.
