CBI books Ateeq Ahmed for abduction of businessman

On the direction of the Supreme Court, the Central Bureau of Investigation registered an FIR against mafia-turned-politician Ateeq Ahmed, his son Umar and  four others in connection with the alleged abduction of Lucknow based businessman Mohit Jaiswal in December last year.

The apex court had ordered a CBI probe into the incident a couple of months back and had directed the police to shift Ateeq Ahmed from UP jail to high-security prison in Gujarat. Ateeq was recently shifted to Sabarmati jail in Ahmedabad.

Sources here said on Thursday that the CBI lodged the FIR in its police station in Lucknow on Wednesday against six named persons, including former MP Ateeq Ahmed, his son Umar, along with 10-12 unknown persons.

The FIR was registered under sections 147,  149, 386, 329, 420, 467, 468, 471, 394, 506 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code.

The reason for the FIR have been given as extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt, cheating, forgery of valuable security, forgery for purpose of cheating, using as genuine a forged document, voluntarily causing hurt, committing robbery, criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy etc.

The FIR names Ateeq Ahmed, Farukh, Jaki Ahmed, Umar, Jafarullah and Gulab as accused along with 10-12 unknown persons.

After the incident, Jaiswal had told the police that he was abducted from outside his house in Lucknow on December 26 last year, driven in his own SUV to the Deoria jail, where Ateeq was lodged. Jaiswal said he was taken inside the jail complex and made to meet Ateeq Ahmed.

In the first information report, Jaiswal alleged that he was assaulted by Ateeq, his son and others inside the jail complex and forced to sign papers handing over his property worth Rs 40 crore before he was let off.

“I was thrashed inside the jail by the accomplices of Ateeq Ahmed. My four companies were forcefully transferred in the name of two associates of Ateeq Ahmed. I was also made to sign 15-10 plain papers and they also forced me to leave my Fortuner vehicle in the jail,” reads the FIR filed by Jaiswal in December last year.

Jaiswal said all this happened inside the jail complex in full knowledge of the prison staff.

The Deoria jail administration had admitted that a person by the name of Mohit Jaiswal had met Ateeq Ahmed inside the jail at around 11 am on December 26, but said the jail staff had no idea that Jaiswal was abducted or under any kind of coercion.

Taking a serious note of the way Ateeq Ahmed’s goons abducted a businessman and brought him to a jail in Deoria, the Supreme Court had ordered suspension of the jail officials who had helped Ateeq bend the law and allowed him to assault the businessman inside his jail cell. The apex court also directed the Uttar Pradesh government to submit status details of all 106 criminal cases registered against Ateeq Ahmed.
