A case has been registered against a leader of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) for allegedly making objectionable remarks and announcing that a “temple” dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse will be constructed in Meerut.
Interestingly, the cops made a secret move against ABHM leader on last Wednesday, but disclosed about legal proceedings to the media only on Friday. Not only this, they talk of stern action against the accused involved in spreading objectionable remarks against Mahatma Gandhi, but had just registered the matter under Non-Congnizable Report (NCR), under which even arrest of a person or stern proceedings could be made only on the Court’s direction.
``The case has been registered against national general secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha, Acharya Madan Sharma, under IPC Section 504 (abusing and insulting another person with intention to provoke breach of peace) and Section 505 (1) (making, publishing or circulating rumours) at the Brahampuri police station”,IG (law and order) A Satish Ganesh revealed here on Friday evening.
According to the reports, on last Wednesday, at the office of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha on Sharda Road in Brahampuri area on Meeerut, it was announced that a “statue” of Godse will be placed on January 30 for the construction of a “temple” dedicated to him. On the occasion, Acharya Madan had allegedly made objectionable remarks against Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, so the local police initiated the legal proceedings. It is also claimed that Meerut will have the country’s first “temple” dedicated to Nathuram Godse.
It may be mentioned that the outfit had on Wednesday performed a ceremony in Meerut for construction of the “temple”, following which the district administration had also ordered a probe on Thursday. Initially unaware of the `bhumi pujan’, the State administration has swung into action with the Meerut DM ordering a probe into the entire matter. The acting DM of Meerut, Navneet Singh Chahal, told media persons that the administration has taken a “very serious” view of the incident.
“The police officer in charge of the area has been asked to probe this and file an FIR against all those responsible for this kind of mischief which can disturb the law and order situation,” Chahal told the media. The SSP Meerut, Onkar Singh, also said that the local Intelligence Unit (lIU) has also been asked to probe the issue on a priority basis and submit its report.
The Bhumi Pujan in Meerut comes two days after the outfit bought land at Sidhauli Para village in Sitapur district to build another temple for Nathuram Godse on January 30, the day Godse shot the Mahatma to death. Member of the central working committee of the Hindu Mahasbha Pandit, Ashok Kumar
Sharma, had declared Godse a ‘martyr’, and claimed that the temple will have a bust of Godse in white stone. “ After the bhumi pujan, we decided the details of the statue of the martyr of this nation Nathuram Godse. It would be our privilege to build the temple and honour the patriot who has popularly been witch-hunted and misunderstood by a large section of this country.” Sharma added.
