Summoned for questioning in connection with a case of theft, a 28-year-old man slit his throat at the Uldan police station in Jhansi district. He was identified as Pushpendra Ahirwar.

As per reports, Pushpendra visited the police station along with two friends, Ankit and Jeewan. When they were about to be questioned, Pushpendra suddenly went out, whipped out a knife and slit his throat. Police said the injured was rushed to the Jhansi Medical College hospital where he was said to be out of danger.

As a precautionary measure, a police contingent, led by SP (City) Radhey Shyam Rai and the CO (City), was deployed in front of the hospital. “A complaint was lodged by Vinod Kumar who suspected Pushpendra’s role in the theft at his house. Based on the complaint, Pushpendra was asked to report to the police station for questioning. He visited the police station along with his friends, Ankit and Jeewan, on Monday. But he suddenly went out of the police station and slit his throat,” Rai said.

When the SP was asked why the accused was not frisked before entering the police station, he said: “Pushpendra was asked to appear before the police for an enquiry related to a theft case. Since he was not arrested, frisking was not required.”

Meanwhile in Sultanpur, a police constable posted at the district jail was injured after he was allegedly attacked by unidentified accused, officials said on Tuesday.
