The Budaun district administration was caught off guard when a statue of Dr BR Ambedkar was found `caged’ fearing its desecration. When locals raised a hue and cry, the cage was removed and a security guard was posted.
The incident was reported from Gaddhi Chowk in Budaun where Dr Ambedkar’s statue was not only caged but was also put under padlock. No one knew as to who put the cage around the statue but people believed that with recent incidents of damaging statues of Baba Saheb on the rise, locals might have done this as a precautionary measure.
Circle Officer, Virendra Singh said that he had no knowledge as who to caged the statue. SDM, Budaun, Parsnath Maurya said that there must be apprehensions that some people might damage the statue before April 14 and therefore to avoid such incident, locals took the precautionary measure.
When a hue and cry was raised over the issue, the cage was removed a Home Guard jawan was posted for its security.
