Parting away from Congress led joint march of Opposition Parties against new ordinance on land Acquisition brought by National Democratic Alliance government, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo announced that her Party would take the farmers fight single handedly by launching a nation-wide agitation.
While the Party will hold dharna and demonstrations at all the district headquarters in Uttar Pradesh on April 27, in the remaining part of the country where BSP has its organisation, the demonstration would be held on May 2. It may be mentioned that Congress already called a big agitation in Ram leela ground on April 19 against the proposed new land Acquisition Bill of BJP.
Making above announcement here at Party office on Wednesday morning, former chief minister, Mayawati, said that in the first phase, the agitation would be held on April 27 in UP and on May 2 in rest of the country over three point agenda related to the farmers issues. “ We would announce the next phase of the agitation after watching the role of the NDA government in the budget session of the Parliament starting from April 20,” she added while ducking the media query that whether she would herself participate in the agitation or not.
RsRsThe agitation against both Central as well as Samajwadi Party led state government would on three main issues — firstly to oppose the amendment in the land Acquisition Act proposed by the Narendra Modi government, secondly apathetic attitude of the Centre and the state government in providing relief to the rain affected farmers and thirdly the deteriorating law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh”, Mayawati revealed while disclosing the agitation plan. She said that later in the afternoon, she would hold a meeting of senior party leaders of UP to chalk-out the strategy for the April 27 agitation while on Thursday, she will meet the leaders from other states over the agitation.
However, the BSP leader narrated in detail about the anti-farmers and anti-people policies of the Central government and alleged that the nine amendments proposed in the land Acquisition Act would be against the right of the farmers. “ PM Modi talks a lot through his ‘ mann ki baat’ but first he should also know the mann ki baat of the farmers,” she advised the PM. On the occasion she did not forget to claim that the UPA government land Acquisition Act 2013 was a copy of her policy adopted on June 2, 2011 in UP. The BSP president also released a booklet named RsRsBSP’s country-wide movement in the interest and honour of farmers’. Mayawati claimed that the booklets would be distributed among the people to aware them about the lapses of the Centre and the UP government particularly in connection with the welfare measures already taken by for BSP government.
Expressing concern over the plight of farmers due to untimely rain and hailstorm, she said that Centre and states should devise a proper system for finalising the compensation and ensure that the announcements being made are actually implemented. Calling for concrete steps on wavering farmers’ loans from bank and money lenders, Mayawati said, “In Uttar Pradesh, the SP government is merely making major announcements following which farmers are facing hardships and several have died also. My party also feels that in this hour of crisis the Central and state governments should not act out of any casteist feelings,” she added.
