After Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) spat over taking credit on the Purvanchal Expressway for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in Azamgarh on Saturday, now Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) too have joined it in taking credit for working for the eastern Uttar Pradesh or Poorvanchal.

BSP president and four time chief minister of UP, Mayawati, in a statement here said that the BJP government was just trying to create a myth by laying the foundation stone of the Purvanchal expressway and announcing the Bundelkhand and Gorakhpur expressway. “As the lok Sabha elections are around the corner, the BJP was trying to take political mileage. If PM Modi was so serious on Purvanchal expressway then why it did not do so in 2014 so that now he would have inaugurating it,” she said.

Mayawati said that during her tenure in UP , she had proposed for Purvanchal and Ganga expressway while completed the Taj or Yamuna expressway. BSP was instrumental behind the Jewar international airport too, she claimed.

Former UP chief minister further said that for better administration in Eastern UP, she had made to separate division of Mirzapur and Basti while created the new district of Chandauli. Demanding that the Central government should immediately announce financial package for Purvanchal and Bundelkhand region,  Mayawati said BJP should prove its committment for the backward region of UP by giving package for these two regions.
