Bahujan Samaj Party leader and former minister, Haji Yakub Qureshi, landed himself in problem as police registered a case against him on Thursday night for announcing a reward of Rs 51 crore for terrorists who attacked French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo’s office in Paris on Wednesday. Senior Superintendent of Police in Meerut, Onkar Singh disclosed on Friday morning that the FIR under Section 505 1 (c) (with intent to incite, or likely to incite, any class or community of persons to commit any offence against any other class or community) of the IPC has been registered against Qureshi, with the Kotwali police station and further investigations are on. “We are searching the BSP leader to record his statement in this regard but he was not present at his home,” the SSP said.
On Friday, Qureshi justified the Paris shootout and said people disrespecting Prophet Muhammad deserve death. The leader had also created a controversy in 2007 when announced a similar prize money for anyone who would kill the Danish cartoonist for drawing a caricature mocking the Prophet. Two cases were filed against him at that time too and the local police also sought prosecution sanction order to trial him in the matter. However, so for the government yet not sanctioned prosecution.
