Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati once again attacked the BJP regimes at the centre and in UP charging them of ignoring the interests of farmers and the poor. The leader said that the ruling dispensation was only trying to get cheap and cosmetic popularity.
Highlighting recent caste-based strife in Saharanpur and other districts, Mayawati alleged that the Yogi government had totally failed on the law and order front.
She however advised her party workers to approach the media and officials while trying to help victims of injustice, claiming that there was need to ensure that they were not falsely accused of fomenting trouble like it happened in Saharanpur. Mayawati addressed party leaders in lucknow after taking ground-level feedback on the excesses unleashed by the police and ruling party leaders, failure of the government in addressing farmers problems etc.
“BJP leaders are openly displaying vengeance, ego, casteism and communalism. In BJP-ruled states, farmers’ interests were being ignored and they were being subjected to atrocities. It is for these reasons that farmers had to resort to protests in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh,” Mayawati said.
“The firing on the farmers, which resulted in death of six farmers during protests on Tuesday at Mandsaur in MP was indeed very sad and must be condemned,” she said at the meeting.
The BSP chief said that if the BJP government in the state had implemented even a part of its ordinary loan waiver scheme, benefits to the farmers would had been visible. “like other promises, this also seems to be just another exercise only on paper,” she said.
Referring to clashes in Saharanpur, Mayawati said that the
district was still simmering as the BJP was not doing any justice to the affected families. “The reality is that the conspirators are going scot-free due to political patronage. People opposing the BJP, have been forced to bear the brunt. Will this normalise the situation IJ” she asked.
She alleged that the present BJP government in UP was working with a casteist mindset and political vendetta in mind, and failed to improve law and order.
“In this context, BSP office bearers and party workers instead of reaching the spot to help affected persons, should meet officials and help in delivery of justice to the aggrieved. Besides, information in this regard be shared with the media so that workers were not blamed by the government in order to hide its efficiency,” Mayawati suggested.
The BSP chief said that in the current scenario, party office bearers and workers must avoid holding protests or staging ‘dharnas’. “In case of injustice being done to a supporter, the issue be raised in legislative Assembly through party MlAs. If needed, the aggrieved person should be asked to move court. Doing this will ensure that the government will not be able to hide their poor performance on law and order front and at the same time, will not be able to frame political opponents,” she said.
