BSP and Congress welcomed SC decision

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati as well as Uttar Pradesh Congress has welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict banning Triple Talaq. However, they claimed that the government should not take credit of the issue as it was Court’s verdict and Bharatiya Janta Party should stop taking political mileage.

“The verdict of the Apex court is appreciated but now it had to be seen that BJP government do not indulge in politics or infuse some hidden agenda of the RSS in the new law as directed by the court,” asserted Mayawati while hailing the verdict of the Supreme Court. In a statement released here on Tuesday afternoon, Mayawati, however expressed that it would have been better if the All India Muslim Personal law Board (AIMPlB) had made some laws to protect the lives of the women. “It seems that when AIMPlB did not do anything, court was forced to interfere and gave there ruling, “she added. But the BSP leader said that the judgment was good for the women. “It is now the responsibility of the central government to enact a legislation within the desired time frame as per the wish and intention of the apex court without any narrow politics of RSS’ hidden agenda,” BSP chief added

Welcoming the decision of the Apex Court on Triple Talaq here on Tuesday evening,  Congress MlC, Deepak Singh said that it would turned out to be new beginning for the Muslim Women as court’s verdict would ushered in a ray of hope among them. Taking a dig at Bharatiya Janta Party for padding their back for the verdict, Singh said that the BJP always had double standard of first opposing every thing and later trying to take credit out of it. ``leave aside Adhar Card, GST, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Bill, MGNAREGA etc which BJP first opposed and later after coming to power tried to take credit of the same, the Saffron brigade even opposed many Congress Party’s step to forward justice to Hindu women”, pointed Singh while reminding that how the RSS and Hindu outfit leaders opposed the Child Marriage Act, law on bigamy or monogamy to protect Hindu Women, or law giving equal right to females in parental property etc when Congress introduced them but later they (BJP) tried to turn out to be the only well wishers of Hindu community. ``Congress always respect people from all caste and religions and had brought legislation from time to time to ensure justice to fairer sex”, Singh said while warning the BJP that they should stop taking credit of SC’s verdict on Triple Talaq.

The Supreme Court by a majority verdict set aside the practice of divorce through triple talaq among Muslims, saying the practice was void, illegal and unconstitutional. The Apex Court held that the triple talaq was against the

basic tenets of Quran. While Chief Justice JS Khehar and Justice S Abdul Nazeer

were in favour of putting on hold for six months the practice of triple talaq and asking the government to come out with a law in this regard, Justices Kurian Joseph, RF Nariman and UU lalit held it as violative of the Constitution. The minority verdict by CJI Khehar and Justice Nazeer, which favoured keeping on hold the practise of triple talaq for six months, asked the political parties to set aside their differences and help the Centre in coming out with a

legislation. The judges in the minority verdict said that if the Centre does not bring a law within six months, then its injunction on triple talaq will continue.
