The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Congress flayed the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) for the blatant misuse of official machinery to ensure victory of their candidates in the polls to elect the Chairamn of District Panchayats.
“It is unfortunate that the SP is claiming huge success in the panchayat polls when they blatantly misused official machinery thereby making a mockery of the election process. Victory on the basis of massive irregularities is hollow,” Mayawati said in a release issued in lucknow on Fridayafternoon. The former CM also charged that the SP had gone to the extent of not allowing opponents to file nominations.
She also noted that those who get elected through such indirect elections, either turn rebel or are removed from their posts on the change of governments as has been seen in the past.
“The SP government had become unpopular for the people in its very first year in office. Now, it is losing its mass support in a big way,” she claimed, adding that the ruling party has made the indirect elections a power game.
Upping the ante against the SP, Mayawati said that the people of all sections are fed up with the government and they will vent their ire in the Assembly polls. “People are awaiting the next 2017 elections which will be directly supervised by the Election Commission and Central forces thereby rendering the goonda and mafia elements ineffective,” she said.
Meanwhile Congress also levelled similar charges at the government and said that the truth of SP’s `grand victory’ will be exposed in the next Assembly polls. The party even blamed the CM for failing to ensure free and fair polls in UP.
``Almost half of the seats were won unopposed by the SP which indicates the reign of terror unleashed by the ruling SP. No one dared to file papers fearing bloody backlash,” alleged Chairman of the UPCC (Media Cell) Satyadeo Tripathi on Friday.
“At places where some people dared to contest against the SP candidates, they were either held captive or the poll was rigged by the ruling party which is an open secret,” Tripathi added.
