Brother-sister duo crushed to death by goods train

A brother-sister duo were crushed to death after being hit by a goods train on the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) in Etawah on Thursday morning.

The victims were identified as Nitesh (15) and his sister Anju (17).

The police said that Nitesh and his elder sisters Anju and Shivani were on their way to their fields to harvest crops by crossing the railway tracks. Shivani and Nitesh had crossed the tracks while an unmindful Anju was walking on the tracks when Nitesh noticed a train coming from Tandua. He tried his best to alert his sister by shouting but due to the train’s honking, she could not hear his alarm.

A desperate Nitesh then rushed towards the track to pull Anju off the tracks but unfortunately, both were hit by the train going towards Kanpur. Soon, villagers and locals working near the incident site rushed to save the minors but by then the siblings had died.

While Anju was a Bachelor of Arts first year student, her brother was studying in Class 9 and the two used to support the family by working in their fields and growing seasonal crops.

Their bodies were taken into custody by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and sent for autopsy to Etawah district hospital.
