Mystery shrouds the deaths of two unidentified young girls whose bodies were found lying near the Ken river bridge besides a railway track in Kotwali police station area of Banda.

Police sent the bodies for post-mortem and were waiting for the report to confirm the cause of death.

Efforts are also being made to find out the identities of the deceased.

Reports said that the Banda police found the bodies of two women, both in their mid-twenties, lying near railway tracks.

The deceased girls were wearing jeans and shirts and seemed to belong to middle class families. ASP Lal Bharat Kumar Pal said it appeared that the girls had died two to three days ago and someone had dumped the bodies at the spot after killing them somewhere else.

He, however, did not rule out the possibility that the girls could have fallen from a moving train. “But as there were no injury marks, the cause of death would be known only after the post-mortem report is out,” the ASP said, adding that a mobile phone was also found at the spot.

In a separate incident reported from Etawah, unidentified miscreants struck terror when they barged into a house and brutally battered a 45-year-old woman to death and critically injured her two daughters.

Luckily, some local residents rushed to the girls’ rescue which saved their lives.

Reports said that one Asha Devi Shukla was living with her two daughters in Chipaiti locality of Banda.

According to Circle Officer Chandrapal Singh, three to four men, armed with lathis, barged into the house of Shukla and attacked her on Saturday morning.

When her two daughters came to her rescue, the miscreants also attacked them, injuring both seriously. The girls raised an alarm following which some local residents rushed to their rescue.

Singh said that all the victims were rushed to a hospital, where the doctors pronounced the mother dead and the condition of the two girls as ‘critical’.

A case has been registered and efforts are on to identify the assailants and arrest them.

The motive behind the attack is also not known and the police are waiting for the two girls to recover so that they may provide some clues.
