In a suspected case of honour killing, the bodies of a boy and a girl were found hanging from a tree in Budaun on Monday morning.
Both were missing since Sunday evening and the local police claimed that they were probably in love but due to objection of their families to their affair, they preferred to commit suicide together.
Both the bodies were sent for post-mortem and further investigations were on.
Reports said that 18-year-old Ratiram, hailing from Jiraulia village under Ujhani Kotwali station of Budaun, was in love with 17-year-old Preeti, residing in the same locality.
Both belonged to the same caste but as they both were also distant relatives, their families were against their affair and had warned both of dire consequences if they continued with their affair. On Monday morning, the local villagers found Ratiram and Preeti hanging from a tree.
After getting information, the police reached the spot and brought down the bodies from the tree and sent them for autopsy.
According to sources, during questioning, the relatives told the police that Ratiram and Preeti had been missing since Sunday evening.
According to the villagers, there was a love affair between the two.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sankalp Sharma said that prima facie it was a case of love affair. He said as both the young man and the teenager belonged to the same caste and were also distant relatives, they faced opposition.
Both the families have not filed any complaint so far but the police are making investigation to confirm whether it is a case of suicide or honour killing.
Sharma said that further action would be taken after the autopsy confirmed the cause of death.
