Death of a Block Development Committee (BDC) member in Amethi led to violence when an agitated crowd torched a Bolero MUV that crushed the victim beside some other vehicles. They also roughed the Bolero driver before the police rescued him and took him into custody.
As per reports, BDCmember Maqsood (45) of Rohasi Khurd hamlet of Gauriganj police station area in Amethi was crossing the Gauriganj-Rae Bareli road at Barnatikar on Tuesday noon when a speeding Bolero MUV fatally ran over him. The Bolero driver later tried to flee from the scene but locals raised an alarm and the vehicle was intercepted some distance away from the spot.
An agitated crowd that gathered there brutally assaulted the driver and torched his vehicle. They also damaged some other vehicles passing by but luckily the police reached on time and rescued the Bolero driver. The police had to use force to chase away the trouble makers. The body was sent for autopsy and a case was registered.
