To accomplish `Mission UP’, the BJP is likely to work on the twin strategy of hitting out at the Akhilesh Yadav government for poor law and order and spreading the message of good work done by the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.
In its two day state working committee meeting held at Jhansi, senior leaders time and again drilled these two points in the minds of party workers.
“You know what our strategy is IJ Go to your `kshetra’ and highlight the failure of Akhilesh government. But at the same time, spread the achievements of Modi Government among the people,” state BJP president Keshav Prasad Maurya said in his parting shot to the workers.
The aim of this twin strategy is to offer to the masses a comparitive assessment of the governance at the Centre and the state respectively.
The party workers would tell masses about the poor law and order of UP and how the Samajwadi Party government has messed up the particular subject. In contrast, the workers would tell the people about pro-people policies of the Modi government to drive home a point that the BJP is the only party which knows how to rule and hence vote it back to power.
“We believe that the next Assembly polls would be fought on development. The BJP always foucsses its poll campaign around bijli, sadak and paani. We have done it in the past, and will do it in the future too,” state BJP general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.
“Now, we have a model of development in the form of Modi government’s accomplishments. We will tell the people how BJP-ruled states have progressed and how pro-people and pro-farmer policies of Union government has lit up the lives of millions of people. Vote for BJP in UP if people want similar progress,” he said.
To take their campaign to the people’s doorstep, leaders have been asked to raise local crime at muhala meetings. The local leaders havebeen asked to reach out to victims or to their kin and extend all possible help to them. The heinous crimes, particularly crime against women, should be raised at the district level. If need be, protest meetings should be held the local leaders were told.
There was a sense of déjà vu among BJP members of the state working committee. The air was pregnant with the expectation of the BJP’s comeback to power in UP after a decade and a half. There were talks about exodus of leaders from other parties and how the BJP has emerged as the first choice for them. The icing on the cake was provided by Union Home minister Rajnath Singh who pointed out that various surveys have projected BJP as the number1 party of UP.
“If you work hard, no power in the world can stop you from coming to power,” Singh said.
However, the exuberance of party workers was slightly eclisped by the absence of Uma Bharati, who on all practical terms was the host being the local MP of Jhansi. There was no convincing reply about her absence. Some said that she was ill while local media persons said she was cross as she was not made the chief guest of the meet.
“We can make whatever plans but these need to be implemented at the ground level. We can implement the plans better if we stand united. So, stay united,” Maurya told party workers during one of his numerous interventions during the meet without taking the name of Uma Bharati.
