BJP,Congress and RlD walks out of Vidhan Sabha

BJP, Congress and RlD created pandemonium in Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha over different issues disrupting the proceedings of the House. The BJP created ruckus over Government move to dismiss Mayors on charges of corruption while the Congress and the RlD members raised Jat Reservation issue.

Congress and RlD members staged a noisy walkout after speaker Mata Prasad Pandey rejected their plea to discuss cancellation of reservation for Jats as the matter was related to the Centre and Supreme Court.  Congress member Akhilesh Pratap Singh said that the BJP led Centre was responsible for the scrapping of the reservation of Jats. “This is anti-Jat policy of BJP that has affected a large section of the society,” he said.

On the other hand BJP created a din as soon as the House assembled demanding discussion on the proposed Bill in which Mayors could be removed by the state government on corruption and charges of non-performance. Speaker ruled that the members cannot debate on this issue until Government tables the proposed bill on the table of the House. “You can debate on the matter only when the Bill is tabled in the House,” Pandey said.

The BJP members trouped into the well of the House and continued to protest demanding debate. They alleged that this amendment in the Nagar Nigan and Nagar Palika Act is against the democracy as the Mayor is elected directly by the people.

Parliamentary affairs minister Mohammad Azam Khan said that BJP was trying to give patronage to the corrupt Mayors and therefore it was staging protest. “When a former Prime Minister can be called for investigation and MlAs can be disqualified for corruption charges why the BJP members are opposing government’s proposed Bill,” he said.

But BJP leader Suresh Kumar Khanna denied the charges of shielding the corrupt Mayors but said this amendment was aimed against BJP as majority of the mayoral posts are being held by BJP leaders. “This amendment is anti-democratic,” he said.

leader of the opposition Swami Prasad Maurya said that there is a nexus between the SP and the BJP and held the BJP was responsible of blackmailing taking the House for ride by creating din in the House on a subject which is yet to come for discussion. The speaker also maintained that House cannot discuss this matter now. As the pandemonium continued Speaker adjourned the House for 25 minutes.

UP government has decided to bring UP Nagar Nigam (amendment) Bill 2015 which has a provision for dismissal of mayors and chairmen by the government in the local bodies.  Of the 13 Nagar Nigam or Corporation in UP, BJP has its mayors in 10 cities and party fears that the SP government might remove them after passage of the Bill.
