BJP walk-out in Assembly over price rise issue

The Bharatiya Janata Party staged a walk-out in the Assembly during Question Hour on Friday when the state Government failed to give any assurance on controlling price rise.

Raising the issue, Satish Mahana (BJP) asked whether the Government had any policy to check the price rise. In reply, Food and Civil Supply Minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh said the Government had asked the district magistrates and divisional commissioners to carry out raids against hoarding. "The Government ensures that traders sell their products at reasonable rates," the minister said. Not satisfied with the answer, the BJP members staged a walk-out saying the Government was not serious on controlling the price rise.

Answering another question, the Government admitted that majority of the labour colonies in the state had illegal occupants. Panchayati Raj Minister Balram Singh Yadav said that out of 29,587 occupants, 24,552 were illegally residing in labour colonies of Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Meerut. "The Government has even sent a proposal asking legal occupants to purchase the flats but only a handful have responded to it," he said.
