BJP urges EC to deploy PMF for counting

Predicting that “achche din aane wale hain”, the state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party asked the Election Commission to make all arrangements for free and fair counting of votes in the state on May 16. It also demanded deployment of para-military forces (PMF), particularly in constituencies from where Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family members have contested the election.

“The ruling Samajwadi Party went for large-scale rigging during polling at Firozabad, Etawah, Mainpuri, Kannauj and Budaun, from where the family members of Mulayam Singh Yadav contested the election. The available trends suggest that the SP is losing in these constituencies and therefore it may do mischief to recover lost ground,” BJP state president laxmikant Bajpai said here on Tuesday.

Bajpai has sent a memorandum to the Election Commission in which he has that the EC should deploy only central forces and central observers at the counting centres. Besides, he said, CCTV cameras should also be installed at all the tables and videography should be done of the counting.

“The state police have failed to prove their impartiality during this election. Therefore, until counting centres are handed over to the central para-military forces, chances of rigging remain,” the BJP state president said.

The BJP leadership has asked its senior leaders to be present in all the 80 lok Sabha constituencies in the state at the time of counting.Meanwhile, the BJP has also complained to the EC about rigging in at least 20 booths in Azamgarh, from where Mulayam Singh Yadav is contesting the poll.

When asked about the future of Akhilesh Yadav Government if the National Democratic Alliance comes to power at the Centre, Bajpai said the BJP would not adopt any undemocratic approach to dislodge the UP government after the party came to power at the Centre.

“Our prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has made it clear that during the NDA regime there will be better relations between the Centre and the states. So there is no question of toppling any majority government,” Bajpai said and added: “Don’t worry. “achche din aane waale hain”.
