With the aim to tackle the Bahujan Samaj Party-Samajwadi Party alliance in Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party has chalked out a strategy that will revolve around Most Backward Classes who are in sizeable number in almost all parliamentary constituencies.
“We have our strategy ready to counter the BSP-SP alliance. The BJP was working on it for the last many months. This strategy revolves around MBCs. It is expected that there are 2-3 lakh MBC voters in almost all constituencies. They can be the key to BJP’s success in Uttar Pradesh,” a senior BJP leader told this reporters here on Monday.
He said that what was positive for BJP in this Lok Sabha election was that there was no wave in favour of anyone. “Anti-incumbency can be there against the BJP government but it is not that sharp that people may have made up their mind in favour of one party or alliance that can replace Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“If you analyse the BSP-SP alliance, one thing is common in it— the Muslim vote bank. The BSP’s support base is Dalits and Muslims while Samajwadi Party is getting its power from Yadav (backward) and Muslim combination. This can be a winning combination only if the upper caste throws its weight behind the BSP-SP alliance,” the leader said.
“Everyone has ignored the MBC factor. We are working with this section of society. The support of MBCs will catapult the BJP to power once again,” he said.
The senior leaders who returned from the BJP national convention said that the party had set a target to get 51 per cent votes this time. They said the party workers had been asked to strengthen a the booth level and ensure people came out and voted in favour of the BJP.
Even the opposition lawmakers agree that there is no perceptible wave in favour of anyone at this point of time.
“The BJP is in power. We need to watch every step the BJP leadership, particularly Narendra Modi, takes in view of BSP-SP alliance. He will definitely try to weaken this alliance,” they say.
