Gearing up for the 2019 lok Sabha election, the Bharatiya Janata Party has chalked out an elaborate people-to-people contact programme through gram chaupals for the next three months starting from September.
Sources in the party told ‘The Pioneer’ on Monday that the BJP would launch the vigorous programme through which it would try to reach the villages.
“Every month, starting from September, gram chaupals will be organised in which senior party leaders, lawmakers and ministers will hold chaupals in the designated gram sabhas and stay put there for at least a night,” a party leader said, adding that this programme would start in September and continue till November.
In May and June, the party had organised gram chaupals in which party leaders listened to the problems of the villagers and tried to resolve them.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had attended three such chaupals in which he had issued directives to the officers to solve the problems of the villagers at the earliest.
“As the feedback party got was very positive, it was suggested that the gram chaupal programme be re-launched. This suggestion was approved in the state working committee meeting of the BJP in Meerut on August 11 and 12 and party leaders were asked to increase their contact with villagers. Thus, the suggestion to revive the gram chaupal programme was approved,” the leader said.
The itinerary of the leaders has been prepared. They will be asked to visit particular gram sabhas on a particular day. The districts which are affected by floods will be spared at present and once the situation there improves, leaders will be asked to visit those gram sabhas also.
The leader said that the BJP had finalised its programme up to February next year.
“We have got everything on the blackboard. We need to implement the programmes in a phased manner,” he said.
The focus of the BJP campaign is to make contacts up to the booth level. The leaders will identify beneficiaries of the government schemes and make another list of those who have been deprived of the benefits.
A worker in each gram sabha will make contacts with five beneficiaries and their family members and will try to win them over through personal contact.
