BJP workers led by party president Dr laxmi Kant Bajpai busted crackers and distributed sweets to celebrate party crossing 10 core mark in the country. In UP the party has crossed 1.8 crore new members mark and is set to touch 2 crore by April 30 next. The target for UP was to enroll 1.5 crore but it crossed that mark. Party state spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak said that after crossing the set target the party has taken up the cudgel to eradicate manual scavenger system. “There are 23 lakh people who work as manual scavengers. The party has taken a pledge to eradicate this system by 2016,” he said. Besides, Pathak said the party will also intensify Beti Bachchao, beti padhao campaign in which campaign would be launched against female foetacide.
About party’s future programme he said that party workers will now connect new member in the state between May and June to confirm about their membership, he said and added that in UP new membership mark would cross 2 crore mark. He said party has already set up four committees —training, sampark abhiyan, office construction, aajivan sahyog nidhi — to deal with the new members. Also, the curriculum and content are being prepared for the same. The content will include the history of the party since the Jan Sangh days. BJP began its membership drive in November last year and now claims to have become the world’s largest political party in terms of members, beating the Communist Party of China (CPC), which has 86 million members.
