The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party said that Akhilesh Government dropped the sedition charges against Kashmiri students who raised pro-Pakistan slogans early this week in Meerut just to appease a section of society in view of coming lok Sabha election.
"This was nothing but an appeasement move of Samajwadi Party to lure Muslims under its belt. The party wants to win the sympathy of Muslims therefore in a late night move decided to drop sedition charges against 66 students of the Swami Vivekananda Subharti University (SVSU) in Meerut who raised pro-Pakistan slogans after India, Pakistan match," BJP state president Dr laxmi Kant Bajpai said here on Friday.
He said that party will also petition Election Commission against this Government decision because it was meant to influence a section of the society. ''How can the police change the FIR without the permission of ECIJ This is violation of model code of conduct," Bajpai said.
The BJP leader said the party will ask the EC to take action against the police officers of Meerut who withdrew the sedition charges. "This Government act will promote anti-national activities. This would mean that anyone can raise pro-Pakistan slogans and go scot free because Samajwadi Party does not want police to take action against Muslims," he said.
''This decision was similar to Akhilesh Yadav government’s earlier move to release dreaded terrorists involved in anti-national activities. The Government was forced to stall the process following judicial intervention,'' he said.
The party also supported the on-going agitation of the ad-hoc employees of the State Roadways Transport Corporation. "The city transport service has come to a halt. The Government should immediately intervene and solve employees’ problems," the BJP state president said.
