On the eve of polling in Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency, the Congress on Sunday filed a complaint with the Election Commission that the Bharatiya Janata Party and its candidate Dinesh Pratap Singh were misusing ambulances and other government vehicles.
Former Congress president and United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi is contesting from Rae Bareli where she is being challenged by one of her erstwhile supporter and Congress MLC Dinesh Pratap Singh.
In a written complaint to the Election Commission on Sunday, Rae Bareli District Congress president VK Shukla alleged that the BJP candidate was using ambulances and government vehicles to shift publicity material on Sunday.
He said the police had seized one such vehicle in Unchahar area but no action had been taken yet against the BJP candidate.
The letter also said that the BJP candidate was no longer a member of the Legislative Council after he joined the BJP.
Apprehending large-scale booth capturing by the BJP during polling on Monday, Shukla has demanded stern action against the BJP candidate and urged the authorities to hold free and fair poll in Rae Bareli
