BJP members staged walkout from the state assembly alleging misuse of official machinery by the state government in the legislative council polls by the ruling Samajwadi party. SP has sweeped the elections by winning as many as 31 out of total 35 seats.
BJP leader Suresh Kumar Khanna raised the issue first as the house assembled for the day and later during the zero hour through an adjournment notice.
“There was rampant misuse of official machinery in the legislative council poll. The government owned helicopter was used to deliver the party symbol to a candidate in Bareilly," Khanna alleged.
However speaker Mata Prasad Pandey refused to entertain the notice said that the matter is the jurisdiction of the Election Commission hence such thing cannot be raised here. The Speaker also said ``how can you accuse the ruling party of misusing the official machinery to win the council election as it was the same party’s government during the 2014 parliament elections then no such allegation were made against the government’’.
The parliamentary affairs minister Azam Khan replying to the charges said that the candidate has already paid the amount for use of the chopper as directed by the EC. " The results declared today of the council polls shows that how the voters have rejected the BJP," he said while adding that the BJP's charges were borne out of frustration. Azam Khan said helicopter was sent to Bareilly but there was no government official in it. He said in his home district Rampur, voters rejected the BJP and even the BJP members of the panchyat and urban local bodies voted for the Samajwadi party candidate.
Meanwhile during another adjournment notice, BSP members staged a walkout over killing of one Umakant Maurya in Sultanpur and the family members were keeping the body inside the house for the past four days. The BSP also raised the issue as soon as the house assembled and staged protest in the well of the house.
leader of the opposition Swami Prasad Maurya alleged that the district administration has ignored the threat on the family and six months back Umakant's elder brother Ramakant was killed. He said that Chief Minister had announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 5 lakhs to the family but even after six month arms licence was not given to Umakant Maurya by the district administration. Azam Khan replying to the charges said that government would look into the matter and will do whatever required under the law.
