In a major setback BJP lost all the candidates it had supported in the cantonment board elections in lucknow and Varanasi raising a big question mark over political revival of this party in gangetic plains.

The BJP lost all the seven seats it had contested in the lucknow Cantonment Board elections despite aggressive campaigning by party state president Dr laxmi Kant Bajpai and State Secretary Pankaj Singh.

It’s the first time BJP had fielded candidates in cantonment Board election, though the elections were not held on official symbols all the BJP supported candidates had scissors as symbols. Interestingly no other party had contested the board election officially.

There were eight seats in lucknow Cantonment Board out of which BJP contested on seven seats but was not able to score avictory on even a single seat.

Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is MP from lucknow constituency. He won the lucknow seat with historic margin. But on his home turf  BJP lost  all seven seats to Independents. All the seven candidates were not even in the race during counting of
votes.

Similar was the condition in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency in Varanasi. The party contested on all the seven seats Varanasi Cantonment Board but here too people opted to vote more in favor of Independent candidates and party’s score was zero.

When contacted BJP Spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak said the party contested in 11 cantonment boards at some success was achieved while at some results were not in favor. All the results will be reviewed and necessary steps will be taken accordingly. “During elections, lots of problems in cantonment areas came into light, it will taken under consideration and future strategy will be prepared,” he added.
