BJP leaders growing in desperation: Akhilesh

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav claimed that as the Assembly elections were inching towards the final phase, the desperation of BJP leaders was growing and they seem to be throwing in the towel. Yadav addressed seven election meetings in Deoria and Mau on Wednesday.

“In the beginning of the poll campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not so critical of the Samajwadi Party. But as the election progressed, the discomfort of the BJP has been growing. Earlier the PM claimed of a clear majority for the BJP. Now he has changed his stance and is talking of a coalition government,’’ said Yadav.

“The Prime Minister has stepped up the attack on Samajwadi Party while BJP leaders were making personal attacks on him. Baba of Gorakhpur (Yogi Adityanath ) made personal comments about my parents. This is a manifestation of frustration of the BJP and also a irrefutable evidence that they have conceded defeat,’’ said Akhilesh in Deoria.

Countering criticism of his government by the PM in Deoria on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said, ``The Prime Minister made a long speech in Deoria today and spoke on several issues and spoke of rural housing. The UP government has a better scheme where over Rs 3 lakh are given to a family for a house in village under lohia Housing Scheme.’’

Yadav claimed, “There is no confusion and doubt in Samajwadi Party on the election results. We are confident that the party will form the next government in alliance with the Congress in UP.’’

The SP chief said that the people of UP have extended their overwhelming support to the SP-Congress in five phases of Assembly elections and if the coalition got the same support in the remaining two phases, then nothing could stop the coalition from winning 300 seats.

Referring to law and order situation repeatedly being raised by the BJP, Yadav promised that if the SP-Congress coalition wasvoted to power then the state government would put an end to bribery and extortion by the police.

Taking a potshot at arch rival Bahujan Samaj Party, Yadav said  ``My ‘bua’ (Mayawati) is perhaps the only leader on the earth  who installed her own statue during her lifetime. If you vote for the `pattharwali party’ (BSP) then it will go waste. The eyes and ears of ‘bua’ are of stone and her government would be the most unresponsive government.”
