A Bharatiya Janata Party leader, who also ran a college in Basti, died under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday. He was found in a pool of blood with a bullet injury on his head.
The family members claimed it to be a case of suicide, citing that the deceased was under depression due to his inability to repay a loan. However, the police suspected foul play because the family members attempted to bury the body without informing them.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and the report is awaited for further investigation, police said.
Reports said that Mohammad Akram was found lying in a pool of blood with his licensed revolver by his side. The family members did not inform the police and started the burial process, but the police reached the spot on the information of neighbors.
The police called the forensic team, which collected samples and the body was sent for post-mortem.
Police have also found a suicide note, which will be matched with Akram’s handwriting to confirm whether it was written by him before his death or not.
