BJP is gearing up for proposed public rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Maghar – a non-descript town in Sant Kabir Nagar district where 15th Century poet Sant Kabir chose to die – on June 28 with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had called a meeting of BJP workers in Gorakhnath temple on Tuesday.
A senior BJP leader Dr Dharmendra Singh said that Prime Minister will come to Maghar on June 28. “He will stay here for four hours. He will visit the shrine at Maghar and later address a public rally. later he will leave for New Delhi,” he said.
Singh said that Yogi will be coming to Gorakhpur on Tuesday where he will have a meeting with local leaders and officials about the proposed PM’s visit. CM is again expected to come on June 23 when he will have meetings with law makers and senior leaders. Party’s organization secretary Sunil Bansal is also expected to attend the meeting, he said.
The UP Tourism department has already initiated steps to promote Maghar as tourism spot where Hindus have built a temple in memory of Kabir while Muslims have constructed a mausoleum in his memory.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had proposed to include Kabir’s shrine in tourism sector. Therefore, Government made an allocation of Rs 25 crore for Kabir circuit project. This will have an interpretation centre, public gallery, exhibition area that will trace the journey of Kabir from his childhood. The archaeology department has been roped in by the UP government to curate all memorabilia from Varanasi or elsewhere on Kabir to be included at his mausoleum.
This visit will have a political overtone too. The BJP is eyeing weavers’ community for the 2019 elections and through his address PM will try to woo weaver community as well as Vaishnava nagas as Kabir is widely believed to be the disciple of Bhakti poet-sant Swami Ramananda in Varanasi. Vaishnava nagas have a huge presence between Varanasi, Chandoli, Gorakhpur, and Sant Kabir Nagar.
