Former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday flaying the BJP government for failing to prevent scams.
“New scams are coming to the fore in the state everyday. There is loot in the name of medicines in the Health department. The current scam is related to the supply of Vitamin-A (syrup) bottles to government hospitals. The quality of the medicine is sub-standard. The liquid in the bottles has been found frozen,” he said.
Yadav said the lives of patients are at risk but neither the health minister nor the chief minister is concerned as they are busy in getting their names published in newspapers and receiving praises,” he said.
He sought to know the status of the probe into the previous scam in purchase of medicines. “Officials from top to bottom are involved in scams and the culprits are yet to be punished,” he said.
The former CM said a Rs 16-crore scam had also surfaced but it was swept under the carpet. “A similar scam had come to the fore at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences. A nearly Rs 50-crore scam had surfaced in the National Animal Disease Control Programme in 2021-22,” he pointed out.
The SP president said that the BJP government had failed in providing quality medicine on concessional rates and it had nearly destroyed the 108/102 ambulance services launched during his regime.
