“The party has decided to honour the leaders who make highest number of members by inviting them on tea with party president Amit Shah and even with Prime Minister Narendra Modi,’ he said. In Uttar Pradesh the new membership drive has enrolled 1.13 crores with a target to cross 1.50 crore by March 31.Deputy in-charges of the membership drive Arun Singh and Vinay Shahastrabudhi too claimed that the drive has given encouraging results in all the states including North-Eastern states and seven southern states where the party is weak.
“In Kerala, we have enrolled 10 lakh new members while in West Bengal it was over 17 lakh. In Tamil Nadu the new registered members are over 12 lakh,” Shahastrabudh said. Earlier in the day senior BJP leaders held a meeting to review the on-going membership drive. In-charge of UP affairs Om Mathur said that UP’s success would be projected as model to other states. The hard work of the party workers has borne fruits.
Such a large team of members will help in creating history during 2017 elections, he said. During the meeting the leaders have drawn a strategy as how to achieve the target. ‘From February 13 to 28 special drive would be launched at the 1.40 lakh polling booths in the state while review of the drive at district level would be held on February 6. From February 13 to 20 all the frontal organisations been asked to organise membership camps in smaller pockets,’ Mathur said. This meeting was to be addressed by BJP national president Amit Shah but he failed to make it because of his busy schedule in New Delhi.
