On the defensive for the last two days over profane remarks by sacked vice-president Dayashanker Singh against BSP chief Mayawati, the BJP upped its ante on Saturday by demonstrating across UP against foul language used by protesting BSP leaders against Singh’s wife and minor daughter.

In lucknow, BJP workers fought a pitched battle with the police when they were stopped by the men in uniform from taking out a protest march towards the Kalidas Marg official residence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. The huge police presence however foiled the attempt of BJP workers, which included a large number of women activists.

Angry BJP activists raised slogans against senior BSP leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui and other leaders and demanded their immediate arrest for making filthy remarks against Singh’s wife and daughter.

later a delegation of BJP leaders met Governor Ram Naik and submitted a memorandum demanding action against the BSP leaders.

To bolster its protest against the BSP, the BJP sounded a war cry – ‘Beti ke samman mein, BJP maidan mein’ and announced that the stir will continue till such time Mayawati and other BSP leaders were arrested.

State BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya said in lucknow that it would have been better had Mayawati expelled Nassimuddin Siddiqui as the BJP had taken action against Dayashankar Singh.

“The BJP demands the arrest of  Siddiqui and all those BSP leaders against whom Singh’s wife has filed an FIR,” said Maurya.

Similar protests by BJP workers were reported from different cities of the state including Mathura, Kanpur, Varanasi, Allahabad,Gorakhpur and most cities of western UP.

Meanwhile, the police stepped up security at the state BSP office and at former CM Mayawati’s residence at Mall Avenue. The state government has also provided security to the family members of Dayashanker Singh.

Meanwhile, Singh, who has been on the run since Wednesday night after an FIR was registered against him, was yet to be arrested despite several raids in Ballia, Mau and other places in eastern UP.

Singh’s wife Swati Singh, who lodged an FIR against Mayawati and other BSP leaders demanded from the UP Police to impose POSCO Act against the BSP chief for threatening a minor girl and making derogatory remarks against her.
