Working on the formula of social engineering, the BJP has declared its regional committees and send a message across that the party is the only one working for the development of all sections.
The regional committees of Kanpur, Brij and Paschim (western) region were announced on Wednesday.
The Kanpur region committee is led by Manvendra Singh, Braj region by Bl Verma and Pashchim region by Bhupendra Singh.
“Though the focus would be on development, the party has also tried to bring different castes under its umbrella. These committees have representation of all castes,” BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said in lucknow on Wednesday.
There is a belief in the party brass that during the last lok Sabha polls, Falits, OBCs, MBCs and upper castes voted en bloc for the BJP. The party got votes even in areas dominated by a particular caste where it did not have enough representation of that caste.
“So, it was of paramount importance that the party provided representation to all castes who supported the party in the last lok Sabha polls. The same formula is likely to be replicated in the state committee,” Pathak said.
With Assembly elections around the corner, the BJP has initiated to bring all castes under the party umbrella. The focus is to attract Backwards among non-Yadavs like Kurmis, OBCs like Shakya and also Dalits into the party fold.
The latest elevation of few MPs from UP into Modi’s cabinet is seen as an attempt to placate particular castes. Krishna Raj is a passi leader has backing of RSS. The dalits had voted for BJP in last lok Sabha elections but had switched loyalty to SP during bye-elections. Besides dalits the BJP is eyeing passis.
Similarly, Anupriya Patel holds sway among Kurmis in eastern UP and her elevation would help to make inroads among backwards.
There is a belief in the party that upper caste is still with the BJP. Despite Congress attempt to project Sheila Dixit as CM face it is believed that she would not be able to make inroads into the upper caste vote bank.
