Bharatiya Janta Party’s (BJP)candidate from Sultanpur lok Sabha parliamentary constituency may have complimented his cousin and Congress candidate from neighbouring seat of Amethi but the latter campaigned in Varun’s constituency on Saturday.
In fact, Rahul Gandhi had a road show on 40 kms stretch from Amahat airport in Sultanpur to Gauriganj, the headquarter of Amethi district, out of which about 17 kms lied in Sulatnpur constituency. The move surprised everyone, as earlier no one from the Gandhi family used to campaign in each other’s constituencies.
Rahul accompanied by his mother and the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Robert Vadra, senior party leader and family loyalist Captain Satish Sharma, held a road show in Sultanpur as well as in his Amethi constituency.
Varun Gandhi, the younger cousin of Rahul, who was elected from Pilibhit lok Sabha seat in 2009 , has shifted to Sultanpur constituency, incidentally adjacent to Amethi and near to Rae Bareliconstituency represented by Sonia Gandhi. He is pitted against Congress nominee Amita Singh, wife of Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, who had won from the seat in 2009.
It was the first time that any Gandhi family member campaigned in the constituency of another member of Gandhi family when Rahul’s road show covered about 17 kms in Sultanpur parliamentary constituency.
